What did you like best about your internship/co-op? What type of work were you doing?

The team I worked with and the work environment was great. Environment was relaxed and every person in the office was easy to talk to, kind and willing to help. I really loved the aspect of teamwork in this office and got the opportunity to work with many different people in order to complete tasks. This was out of necessity but it was very interesting to learn about the roles of all my colleagues, their daily work and the importance role they played in the function of the business.

What did you like least about your internship/co-op?

One of the downsides of being a co-op student at this workplace was that the work that my team was doing was being submitted to head office and it was time sensitive. So as much as I tried to help out where I could there was a lot of work that had to be done by the full-time employees, meaning I was left some days with no work to do. There were days when I had to occupy myself with working on independent projects or seeking out work from others in order to fill my days. However this was not all the time. There were days when I had tons of work to do and stayed overtime. So the work load was inconsistent throughout the term, but I preferred the busy days.

Manager experience

Did your manager(s) provide you with support and coaching to be effective in your role?
Did you receive clear and actionable feedback from your manager(s) during your work term?
Did you feel comfortable asking your manager(s) questions, when needed?
Feedback to management about the internship/co-op program:

My manager had a very busy schedule which made it difficult to meet with her, but she was very approachable and easy to talk to when she had availability. This meant she was unavailable to meet with me, or just not around to answer questions for some of the time. However most of the time there was someone else I could go to. It would have been nice to receive more feedback from my manager, to set up regular bi-weekly or monthly one-on-one meetings just to discuss how I am doing and how to proceed. I think if we had set aside that time to meet together regularly it would have been really beneficial to my co-op experience. This being said when we did get the opportunity to talk, my manager was always very helpful and provided me with meaningful advice and leadership. She was a great role model for me to get to know and it is obvious that she cares about and prioritizes the success and well-being of her employees.

Social experience

To what degree did the team make you feel welcome, included and valued?
Like family
How often were there opportunities to participate in social activities with your colleagues?
Describe the office environment/culture.

The team environment at our office was one of the highlights of my work experience. Every person I worked with was kind and approachable. I really enjoyed working with my colleagues, the office culture was very inclusive. We regularly did team lunches to celebrate birthdays and other events which was always fun.
