What did you like best about your internship/co-op? What type of work were you doing?

I helped with keeping project on track and helped monitor them until completion. I worked closely with other departments and it was overwhelming at first but I was able to get a grasp as my manager slowly handed off tasks for me to do on my own. My manager was very caring and helpful and stressed the importance of work-life balance. She also stressed the importance of family over work ALWAYS and her boss also supported this. My coworkers were friendly and inviting and I had no hesitation to ask them for help whenever I needed it. The environment was so friendly and I never felt uncomfortable working there. I had no idea what to expect as this was my first co-op at the post-secondary level and Sun Life definitely exceeded my expectations. I would love to work here again and would recommend my peers to apply here any day.Life's brighter under the sun!

What did you like least about your internship/co-op?

Every day didn't have consistent work that kept me busy and occupied throughout the whole day. Of course I had my daily responsibilities but they were light and easy enough for me to complete in the morning. A lot of my coworkers worked remotely so the in person engagement wasn't always there but they were always available over instant message.

All the time
Did you receive clear and actionable feedback from your manager(s) during your work term?

Feedback to management about the internship/co-op program:

My manager was always willing to help me and gave me my space to do my own work independently. She didn't breathe down my neck or micromanage me and I appreciated that she trusted me enough to handle certain tasks on my own. She always gave immediate feedback with suggestions on how to improve. She is very encouraging in helping me improve my own skills. Communication was something I lacked as I feared presenting in front of large groups and both my manager and her boss always encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and this has vastly improved my participation and collaboration in the classroom.

Social experience

To what degree did the team make you feel welcome, included and valued?
Like family
How often were there opportunities to participate in social activities with your colleagues?
All the time
Describe the office environment/culture.

very friendly and welcoming. If I ever need assistance, the customer support was always there to help as well as other coworkers working near me. Even people I didn't know on a first-name basis said good morning to me every day and it made me feel comfortable always coming to work. Commuting to and from work was great too as security was always outside monitoring to ensure our safety
