I held two roles in my 16 month co-op, one as a Systems Analyst Co-op in IT for Application Support, and one on a project team for the management system. The best part of my co-op was the people that I got to work with. Each of them taught me valuable skills that I currently and will continue to use in the workplace. The opportunity I was given to work in different roles really gave me an idea of what I like to do and what I am passionate about. The level of responsibility I was given really made me feel like I was an important part of the team and gave me an opportunity to learn as much as I could.
As my internship started in 2016, it was sad to see employees that I had just met and just started building a relationship go due to layoffs and company organizational changes.
During my time as a co-op student at Nexen, I had 4 managers due to organizational changes, as well as my role change. They all had different managerial styles, but I can say that I did feel as though they all truly cared about my experience at Nexen and wanted me to grow and learn. They were all there for support and guidance whenever I needed it.
The culture at Nexen was similar to that of a family, where in we are all working towards the same goal, and each of our work impacts each other.
Nexen provided me with a great learning experience. Take this opportunity to learn as much as you can and meet as many people as you can.
