Being placed into the field and seeing real world issues was a huge difference for me. In class we can build environments and mimic stuff using products but until we are in the real world it is hard to get a sense of how they are being used and what they are being used with and for. Also adding people to the mix creates interesting outcomes that you dont see in textbooks or lectures.
The best part was the branding, I can now tell and say people I have worked for IBM a globally known company in the top tiers of business.
There has been some lack of documentation in training manuals and procedures. Yes you can have someone verbally explain it to you but then you have nothing to look back on and read over if there are ever any problems.
