What did you like best about your internship/co-op? What type of work were you doing?

My team was supportive and welcoming - all the interns got along quite well and worked collaboratively. My work involved managing communication channels and performing market research and analytics on IBM products such as Watson. This allowed me to see a product be developed from the ground up. I learned project management and product management skills, as well as how to work cross functionally with technical people.

What did you like least about your internship/co-op?

The mentorship process and daily tasks within my team were unclear - there wasn’t any documentation or guide. A lot of times I had to wait to be assigned a task on github. Since my team is split between Ottawa and Toronto, it was hard to communicate or get immediate answers.

Feedback to management about the internship/co-op program:

Would love to be able to have 1:1 meetings with my manager where I can get feedback and also actionable tasks. A lot of my work was taking initiative and learning on my own, which is good. However, having a structure to follow would be helpful just to ensure I was on the right track.
